An off-duty New Orleans Police officer was hit by gunfire this evening.
Police say it happened around 8:50 this evening as the officer was driving on I-10. Chief Ferguson says the officer heard glass shattering, then realized he had been shot.
Ferguson says the officer drove himself to University Medical Center where he was treated for "a deep graze wound to the head."
Ferguson says the officer is stable and responsive.
I-10 West at St. Bernard is closed while police investigate.
