Northshore authorities say whatever is floating in the water around Slidell, it is not posing a threat.
“We have been informed that this substance is not dangerous to citizens," St. Tammany Parish Mike Cooper said in a news release.
"The Department of Environmental Quality will be conducting further investigation to determine if any further steps are warranted.”
He says they have determined the substance is "not flammable and is pH neutral."
The mystery substance was spotted this weekend in the waterways near Moonraker Drive and Clipper Drive in the Slidell area.
“I greatly appreciate the coordinated effort of our first responders who investigated this substance to ensure the safety of our citizens,” said Cooper.
Authorities say further updates are expected Monday.
