As social media buzzes with warnings of possible unrest in New Orleans, local officials are calling the claims unfounded and urge residents not to panic.
New Orleans Homeland Security Director Colin Arnold says there’s no credible threat of dangerous protests happening in the city.
“We saw a protest yesterday, and it was peaceful,” Arnold said. “People have the right to peaceful protests.”
He adds that his office is actively monitoring the situation and maintains constant communication with the New Orleans Police Department and other law enforcement agencies.
“We’re in contact with our partners regularly on these types of situations,” Arnold said.
City officials say while they will remain vigilant, however there is currently no cause for alarm.
