NOFD

New Orleans Fire Department says one person is dead from a fire in an apartment in the 2200 block of Simon Bolivar Avenue, near Josephine Street, in Central City.

NOFD units responded to the blaze just before 1pm this afternoon.

The fire was burning in a seven unit two story apartment building heavily involved in flames.

The fire had already extended to the second floor and through the roof of the apartment building. During the course of fighting the fire, the body of an adult male was found in the bedroom of what was believed to be the apartment where the blaze started.

The victim was determined to be deceased by New Orleans Emergency Medical Services personnel.

The victim’s body had been severely burned, making it impossible to determine the cause of death at the scene.

Nine NOFD units supported by twenty-eight Fire Operations personnel were used to bring this incident under control just before 1:30 in the afternoon.

A total of three surviving residents are displaced by this incident, two from the fire building and one from the detached dwelling.

A dog belonging to one of the residents was rescued from the extinguished ruble with little to no injuries.

There were no injuries reported, outside of the single fatality, and the cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
