The Orleans Parish School Board has kicked off their search for a new school Superintendent.
School Board President Ethan Ashley announced the launch of a “Superintendent Search Committee of the Whole,” composed of all school board members.
The search committee will host its first meeting on Tuesday, July 27, 2021, to begin the search process for the next superintendent of NOLA Public Schools.
The committee formation comes one week after Superintendent Dr. Henderson Lewis, Jr. announced that he will not seek a contract extension at the end of the 2022 school year.
The Superintendent Search Committee of the Whole will function as all other standing committees of the school board and will be open to the public.
“Dr. Lewis provided consistent and steady leadership and prepared the district for the return of all schools to local control. This board thanks him for his leadership and service,” said Ashley. “This special committee will focus on creating and executing the process by which we will attract and identify a strong, qualified, equity-minded leader who can be ready to assume the role of Superintendent upon Dr. Lewis’s departure. He has provided us with ample notice to allow us to run a comprehensive, transparent, community-focused superintendent search, and we will work to ensure our teachers, school employees, parents, and students know that their voices are being heard throughout the selection process.”
The work ahead is important to the board and the entire NOLA Public Schools community.
The Superintendent Search Committee is well equipped with the tools and members to determine the best fit for the role and will create and execute a comprehensive, community-focused superintendent search plan.
The committee has ample time for a strategic search due to Dr. Lewis’ early announcement and is devoted to identifying the best leader of NOLA Public Schools.
