The Orleans Parish Sheriff's Office says an ongoing investigation into the smuggling of contraband into the jail has led to the arrest of a sheriff's office recruit.

During an interview conducted March 16, the sheriff's office says 33-year-old OPSO recruit Courtney Wicker admitted she smuggled in contraband and was planning another run the following Monday.

"Wicker acknowledged delivering Suboxone Sublingual Film to a detainee in December 2023 in exchange for $2,000.00," the sheriff's office said. "She also admitted to being in possession of a package she intended to deliver for another detainee at the OJC Monday, March 18, 2024 for a payment of $5,000.00."

"I commend the work of the detectives in our Investigative Services Bureau and reaffirm this agency’s commitment to rooting out wrongdoing within the department," Sheriff Susan Hutson said. "The Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office is unwavering in its dedication to upholding the law and ensuring the safety and security of our facilities for those in custody and our staff."

Wicker was booked for introduction of contraband into a penal institution and malfeasance in office.
