Two people who allegedly scammed a Tangipahoa Parish store out of nearly $3,000 are wanted by Tangipahoa Parish sheriff's deputies.
Investigators say the incident happened on February 9 at the Dollar General on Airport Road just north of Interstate 12.
According to investigators, the couple distracted the clerk while using prepaid gift cards they had already cashed out to purchase items. The clerk never realized the register declined the transaction. Store employees didn't catch the error until a manager discovered it at the end of the shift. Investigators later learned that the suspects attempted to pull off the same scam at another Dollar General location on Pumpkin Center Road.
The pair left both stores in a white SUV.
