A 47-year-old man is dead after being struck by a Regional Transit Authority bus overnight in Central City, according to the New Orleans Police Department.
The crash occurred shortly after midnight at the intersection of South Claiborne Avenue and Jackson Avenue. NOPD said officers were called to the scene at approximately 12:12 a.m.
Emergency medical personnel responded, but the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Orleans Parish Coroner's Office will release the victim's identity pending notification of family members and will determine the official cause of death.
The NOPD Traffic Fatality Unit is investigating the crash. Detectives have deployed a department drone to assist with the investigation as they work to determine exactly what led to the fatal collision.
