A happy coincidence leads to a photo of a ‘slim’ Zion Williamson which goes viral on social media, furthering the debate that the Pelican star is not overweight or out of shape.
Out shopping with his young son, B97’s Speedy ran into Zion who struck up a casual conversation with him and his son about their shoes.
“And we are standing there… we were looking in the case, we were looking through all the jewelry and stuff, and like literally, out of the side he jumped in front of us… and leans over to my son and goes… ‘hey little man, I like them shoes’…and we both look up and were like… both our mouths were on the ground,” said Speedy. “And there he is…and he stands up, Zion has this biggest smile in the world on his face, he is like… how y’all doin’.”
Zion drew criticism that he is not keeping up with his physique during the season after misleading photos surfaced on social media depicting him to be overweight.
Speedy says his photo of him and his son posing with Zion is unaltered and that Zion appears to be in a healthy shape.
“We chopped it up a little bit; my son is in basketball right now, so he was giving my 10-year-old some tips on defense and offense,” said Speedy.

Speedy says Zion tells him how much he loves playing for New Orleans.
“This was from his mouth… I didn’t even ask him this, he told me, he said… I don’t care what you heard in the media, I love this city. I don’t want to go anywhere, I’m here, this is my town, this is where I want to be.”
Before saying goodbye, Zion autographed both Speedy and his son's shoes.
