Plaquemines parish couple acccused of locking girl in closet

arrested

A man and woman from Plaquemines Parish are charged with creulty to a juvenile after authorities say they found a seven-year-old girl kept locked in a filthy closet.

WWL-TV reports 33-year-old Tiffany Cupp and 32-year-old Jack Branton were arrested Friday. The child is in the custody of the Louisiana Department of Chicldren and Family Services.

"This is a situation where a child was kept in a locked closet," Plaquemines Parish District Attorney Charles Ballay told WWL-TV. "That’s what they had for the child. And in a room with puppy pads on the floor for feces and all that."

Ballay says it was a tip from the community that brought the situation to authorities' attention.

If convicted, Cupp and Branton face up to 40 years in prison.
