New Orleans Police say a 17-year-old is dead after he and some other suspects illegally went into the abandoned Plaza Tower in downtown New Orleans.
"The victim and a group of friends entered the building and ascended to a higher floor," according to a police report. "The group had been consuming alcohol and when attempting to descend the stairs, the victim fell."
First responders were called to the building in the 1000 block of Howard Avenue just after midnight this morning.
"The victim was pronounced deceased on scene by EMS."
The 17-year-old was from Plaquemines Parish.
The tower has been shuttered for years and is boarded up.
