New Orleans Police say an armed robbery gone wrong ended with a store clerk shooting a suspect.
"The NOPD is investigating a shooting in the 4700 block of Canal Street. Initial information shows a male victim located on scene with a reported gunshot wound to the hand," Senior Public Information Officer Aaron Looney said in an email.
Further investigation revealed that the person shot was allegedly one of the robbers.
"The subject injured by gunfire is considered to be one of two reported suspects in this incident. The injured suspect was transported to a local hospital via EMS for treatment. The second suspect reportedly fled the scene."
Looney says the call came in just before 2:00am.
An initial police report said, "Suspects entered business at location. One suspect produced handgun. Store clerk produced handgun and fired shots toward suspects, striking one suspect."
The investigation continues.
