Police find man dead in Hammond Waffle House with several gunshot wounds

A Ponchatoula man was fatally shot while dining at a Waffle House in Hammond early Sunday morning, police said.

Officers responded to a call of a shooting at a Waffle House located on West Thomas Street at 3:54 a.m. Officers found 30-year-old Robert Armstrong dead with several gunshot wounds, WWLTV reported.

A spokesperson for the Hammond Police Department asked the public for assistance to find a woman who possibly saw what happened.

"She is not a suspect in this crime; however, she is a possible witness or may have information related to the crime," the statement from police said. "If you know the identity of this female, please contact the Hammond Police Department at 985-277-5701 as soon as possible."

Investigators with the HPD are continuing to look for clues at the scene, talking to people who may know what happened. Police said they are willing to hear from people with information as the investigation is far from over.
