A 28-year-old Montz man faces accusations he beat up an elderly man in LaPlace on Saturday, stole his car, and fled to Kenner.
Kenner Police says it was through use of Flock surveillance cameras that they were able to arrest Christopher Fraiser.
The St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff's Office says it was called shortly after noon on Saturday to investigate a carjacking. The victim told deputies that he was putting groceries in his car when he was attacked by a man who choked him, threw him to the ground, and punched him in the face.
The sheriff's office issued an alert for the stolen vehicle.
Kenner Police say they received the alert around 12:40 p.m. that day.
"Kenner patrol officers immediately accessed the Flock system and, lo and behold, saw where that license plate was appearing on cameras throughout the city of Kenner," Kenner Police said in a social media post. "Using the Flock technology, officers located the vehicle and surrounded it at Decatur Ave and Veterans Blvd."
Officers detained Frasier, whom they identified as the driver, and found that he was on parole for simple burglary and possession of meth. Police say they also learned that Frasier was never issued a driver's license.
Kenner Police Chief Keith Conley says this shows the usefulness of the Flock system in keeping the public safe.
"Within 17 minutes of receiving information from our partners in St. John Parish, our officer were able to use FLOCK technology to locate the stolen vehicle, safely take the suspect into custody, and recover the vehicle," said Chief Conley. "This is exactly how technology should support good police work."
