Mississippi police are in a standoff with a gunman suspected of killing three people, according to local media outlets.
The standoff is underway at a business in Gulfport, according to WLOX.
The shooting reportedly occurred at the Broadway Inn Express near Biloxi Beach just after 9 a.m. Witnesses told WLOX that it was a “chaotic scene with people fleeing the area.”
“We’re just not used to those types of things happening in Biloxi,” said Mayor Andrew “Fofo” Gillich. “We’re in shock… We have 4.2 million visitors a year and about 7,000 hotel rooms. This is not a big property. Couldn’t say this is in a problem area.”
Police have cordoned off streets around a convenience store where they believe the suspect is hiding, according to the Biloxi Sun Herald.
Authorities also believe the suspect assaulted another victim in Gulfport after leaving the hotel, according to WLOX.
