After nearly 10 hours of negotiations, the standoff between a man and police in a neighborhood in Gentilly has come to an end.
According to New Orleans Police Department spokesman Aaron Looney, the suspect who had barricaded himself inside a home on Seminary Place surrendered to police without incident. An infant who was in the home with the man was safely recovered and was not harmed during the incident. The child is now in the care of its mother.
"(There were) no injuries (or) no use of force," said NOPD Special Forces Captain Lejon Roberts during a news conference shortly after the standoff ended. "At one point, we got some family members on scene who were able to help us negotiate (with) the subject a peaceful surrender."
The man who led officers on the standoff was taken to the hospital for evaluation. Looney says charges are possible.
