It’s been well-documented that the potholes just hit different in New Orleans. And Wednesday night, political strategist James Carville had a firsthand experience with one while riding to a fundraiser with a friend.

The car’s driver, Frederick Bell, drove over what he thought was simply a puddle and instead found his 2013 Hyundai Sonata trapped and unable to move, according to an interview he gave to NOLA.com.

“Yeah, it was an experience,” Bell said. “Luckily not too much damage was done.”

Bell allowed a photo of his and Carville's predicament to be shared by local pothole-watchdog Instagram account @lookatthisf***instreet.

No barricades or cones were present to warn motorists of the impending doom they might face lest they traverse this particular chasm on Girod Street in the Big Easy’s Warehouse District.

A tow truck eventually arrived to pull the car from what Bell called “a trench in the middle of the street.” He’s still figuring out the extent of the damage.
