Ponchatoula voters elected their new mayor on Saturday, giving the city its first new mayor in 20 years.
Wesley Daniels won the mayoral race outright in the primary, taking 63 percent of the vote. Jerry Miller, Jr., finished in second place with 31 percent of the vote. Arden Wells finished in third place with seven percent.
Daniels is a local business owner. His only political experience prior to running was serving two terms on the South Tangipahoa Parish Port Commission.
Daniels will succeed Robert Zabbia, who did not seek reelection after serving five terms as mayor.
