Porch pirate arrested in Kenner, say police

Porch pirate arrested in Kenner, say police
Kenner Police Department

Kenner Police announced Wednesday the arrest of a woman they say has been stealing package deliveries across Jefferson Parish, including military ribbons intended for a service member's uniform.

Police say the most recent thefts were caught on video by two different residents of the Driftwood subdivision. Both videos showed a white woman approaching the front porch carrying a red food delivery bag as if delivering food, but instead picking up packages and placing them in the bag, then walking away.

A day later, the detective assigned to the case, while off duty, noticed a woman who resembled the suspect that was caught on video. He noticed the woman getting into a car matching the one seen in the videos and got its license plate number.

The detective then identified the woman as 37-year-old Brittany Ponds, located her residence in the 200 block of Taylor Street in Kenner, and obtained a search warrant. It was during the subsequent search of the home that police say they discovered the military ribbons and numerous other items and packages reported stolen from Kenner and Jefferson Parish, along with a small amount of methamphetamine.

Cops booked Ponds on several counts of theft along with drug possession.

The case is still active and anyone with information is asked to call Kenner Police at (504) 712-2222 or Crimestoppers at (504) 822-1111 or toll free at (877) 903-7867 (STOP).

Callers to Crimestoppers do not have to leave their names and may be eligible for a cash reward.
