An electrical transformer sparked a two-alarm fire at a French Quarter hotel late Monday afternoon.
According to a New Orleans Fire Department spokesperson, dispatched received the first call about the fire from the Courtyard Marriott at 910 Iberville Street just before 3:30 p.m. Firefighters arrived about five minutes after that initial call and discovered heavy smoke coming from the electrical vault room on the first floor of the hotel. Those firefighters the called for a second alarm and evacuated the hotel. Entergy shut off electricity to the building, allowing firefighters to put out the fire before it could spread to other parts of the hotel.
According to investigators, the hotel building suffered no structural damage.
Fire officials say other buildings near the Courtyard Marriott also lost power when Entergy cut power to the hotel. Officials say that caused some people to be trapped in elevators.
No injuries were reported as a result of the fire.
