Update: The pregnant woman shot in Treme is the girlfriend of local trumpeter Kermit Ruffins. Ruffins later posted to social media that his girlfriend, Harmonese Pleasant and her baby are doing fine.

WWLTV reports that multiple sources told police that a blue Chevy Malibu pulled up and the couple began arguing with the person inside the car when a shot was fired striking Pleasant in the stomach.

Pleasant was due to deliver her baby on April 9 which makes her 37 weeks into her pregnancy. The baby was successfully delivered through emergency C-section and is said to be doing fine.

New Orleans police are still gathering evidence in the investigation.

Original story: A pregnant woman was shot in the stomach shortly after 7:00 p.m. on Thursday in Treme and New Orleans police are questioning a famous local trumpeter about the shooting.

WWLTV reports Kermit Ruffins was seen speaking to NOPD officers outside a home in the 1300 block of Treme Street about 10:00 p.m. but was not detained by police. At this time it is unknown how Ruffins is involved in the incident or what he told police about the shooting.

According to the news station, two sources say the 25-year-old woman was bleeding from a gunshot wound to the stomach and was rushed to the hospital where she underwent an emergency C-section. The child was transported by EMS to Children’s Hospital where the baby also had emergency surgery. Sources say the woman was just weeks away from her due date when the shooting happened.
