Three weeks into the Louisiana prep football season, and a number of teams have begun to emerge as early contenders for state championships.
Edna Karr looks as strong as ever after holding off last year's Division I-Non-Select runner-up Ruston to extend their winning streak to 31 games. St. Augustine, who lost to Edna Karr in the Division I-Select state title game last year, made a statement in their lopsided victory over East Ascension in their first game in the Superdome since last year's Prep Classic. Meanwhile, Alexandria, Westgate, and St. James continue to roll as the first third of the season comes to a close.
These teams and several others with perfect marks through the first three weeks will face stout tests as we push into the heart of the season. For some, such as the teams in the Catholic League, district play begins this week. For others, they will take on teams from opposite parts of the state or, in some cases, from out of state.
