Public Service Commissioner Craig Greene told WWL that power customers will be paying more on their bills to cover the cost of storm repairs.

“What that would look like probably is $10 a month for 15 years or something, that is what it is looking like,” said Greene who cautioned that final calculations have not been made yet.

Greene said they have asked for FEMA aid to cover the cost of repairs.

“It’s about four billion dollars for the last two years of storms, and that would dollar for dollar offset what the ratepayers have to pay for restoration efforts,” said Greene.

The New Orleans City Council, which governs Entergy New Orleans, has also requested FEMA coverage for power grid damage.

Greene said power companies can’t turn a profit on storm repairs, they can only request a rate hike large enough to cover their costs. That rate hike will have to be approved by the PSC. The New Orleans City Council will have to approve any Entergy New Orleans rate hikes.
