New Orleans Registrar of Voters Sandra L. Wilson, Ph.D says she has been preparing for today's deadline for submission of signatures from organizers of the effort to remove New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell from office.
"In compliance with the Louisiana Revised Statutes, Title 18 of the Election Code, the Orleans Parish Registrar of Voters Office has with great effort, planned procedures for the receipt and certification of voter signatures related to the recall petition for Mayor LaToya Cantrell," Wilson said in an email.
She notes that it is no small task.
"The Registrar of Voters office is non-partisan and small staffed; however, this labor-intensive process shall be completed accurately, timely, and in keeping with election laws. Recall Chairs plan to present thousands of
voter signatures to the Registrar of Voters Office,Wednesday, February 22, 2023."
The recall organizers said they would bring the reams of documents to New Orleans City Hall at 3:00pm. They invited thousands of supports to join them to march, or second line, to the registrar's office.
