Two workers were taken to the hospital with unspecified injuries after a blast and fire at the Valero oil refinery in Meraux Saturday afternoon, WWL-TV reports.
Residents report hearing a loud boom in the afternoon. Smoke could be seen coming from the area of the refinery.
St. Bernard Parish President Guy McInnis told WWL-TV that East St. Bernard Highway in the area of the plant is closed.
The condition of the two injured workers was not given.
