$250,000: that's what Mayor LaToya Cantrell's travels have cost the city of New Orleans since the start of 2023 according to public records obtained by a local newspaper via a records request.
According to our partners at NOLA.com, city records show that those the expenses covered hotel rooms, meals, flights, car services, and other incidentals for the mayor and her staffers--including bodyguards--who accompanied her on those trips. The report adds that outside groups sponsoring Cantrell's attendance at conferences chipped in another $100,000 dollars for expenses.
According to the report, the travel expenses were paid using taxpayer dollars, coming out of the city's general fund. That many paid for Cantrell to attend conferences and other events in Nairobi, Dubai, Los Angeles, and Washington, D. C., among other cities, over the last 18 months. The total does not include a recent trip Cantrell made to Qatar.
