The best part of waking up is getting a victory in court—that is, if you’re the Folgers Coffee Company.
According to a report by our partners at NOLA.com, an Orleans Parish judge has given Folgers a four-month reprieve on a $5.1 million property tax bill. That report says the judge issued a preliminary injunction barring city and state officials from putting two improvement at the New Orleans East plant on property tax rolls.
Folgers reportedly said it made the improvements with the understanding that it would receive tax breaks under the Industrial Tax Exemption Program. However, city and parish officials rejected the company’s request for those tax breaks, setting up the current legal battle.
