There was a deputy-involved shooting near an intersection on the Mystic Krewe of Music parade route in Marrero Monday night.

Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office Sergeant Brandon Veal says a JPSO deputy shot an unidentified person on Lapalco Boulevard at Ames Boulevard. Veal says the shooting happened after the parade had passed and that deputies were allowing the public to leave the area.

"Just before 9:00 pm, deputies were directing parade-related traffic in the 5900 block of Lapalco Blvd. While directing traffic, an adult male driving a sport utility vehicle tried to exit through an unauthorized portion of a nearby parking lot where a deputy was standing. The man drove the vehicle over the curb towards the deputy and refused to adhere to instructions to stop. After the man continued to drive forward, the deputy retrieved her service weapon and fired at the man striking him once."

The man was transported to an area hospital where his condition is listed as stable.

Veal says more details are forthcoming.
