A lawyer for Mayor LaToya Cantrell’s image consultant told local reporters that the Cantrell repaid that consultant for clothing she bought at a boutique.
According to a joint report by WWL-TV and nola.com, attorney Clarence Roby, Jr., said Tanya Blunt Haynes knew that her monthly consulting fee from Cantrell’s campaign was “solely for her image consulting” work and not for buying clothes for the mayor. The report adds that Cantrell’s campaign finance reports show that Haynes’s consulting fee cost the campaign $6,000 per month.
The report says Roby declined to discuss specifics about Haynes’s arrangement with Cantrell or the federal investigation surrounding the purchases. However, Haynes did say Haynes has “not been told that she’s a target.”
The report says Cantrell dismissed questions about the investigation when asked about it on Monday at a news conference to promote the Bayou Classic football game.
“I’m not answering no questions like that,” Cantrell reportedly responded. “That’s crazy.”
