Three juveniles have been arrested in connection to a Mid-City carjacking on Monday which resulted in a 73-year-old woman having her armed severed while she was dragged to death as the four individuals drove off in the woman’s SUV, according to WWL-TV.

The news station says two police sources confirmed three of the four suspects wanted are now under arrest for the gruesome crime.

An arrest warrant is out for the fourth suspect who is still at large.

New Orleans Police Chief Shaun Ferguson is expected to give a live update on the investigation later today.

The terrifying crime happened as the Metropolitan Crime Commission reports a 309% increase in carjackings in New Orleans from 2019 to 2022.

The crime commission reports that carjackings still show the highest increase across the board with 90 carjackings so far this year, compared to 63 carjackings last year.

The recent series of violent crime incidents prompted city leaders to issue a statement on what they are doing to end the violence.

The statement reads in part, “No one should suffer the type of horror inflicted upon our people – and no one should have to deal with the trauma that it leaves behind. But none of these words matter. Until the City’s actions meet the urgency of our words, there will be no change. The Council is exploring best use of federal dollars to address violence through preventive and responsive measures along with reviewing the effectiveness of anti-violence programs operated and funded by the City.”
