The woman who allegedly led Jefferson Parish sheriff's deputies on a chase into New Orleans last week is now facing murder charges in connection with an Algiers shooting.
Flora Holmes is accused of shooting and killing a man on Westbend Parkway last Sunday, one day before deputies say she led them on that chase. According to our partners at NOLA.com, Holmes was rebooked into the Orleans Parish Prison on Friday in connection with the shooting.
According to court documents, investigators say surveillance video showed Holmes getting out of the car seen at the scene of the crime. Police also say surveillance video from about 20 minutes earlier shows a man starting to run away from a nearby car before falling to the ground, where police later found him dead. Holmes car is seen in that footage driving away from the scene. They also say that the car is registered in Holmes's name.
One day later, Jefferson Parish deputies tried to pull Holmes over in Harvey. That's when Holmes allegedly led those deputies on a chase. That chase led to a six-car crash in downtown New Orleans. Holmes was arrested on armed robbery charges after the chase. Deputies say Holmes threw a gun out of her car during the pursuit.
According to the NOLA.com report, New Orleans police detectives obtained a search warrant for Holmes's phone. The detectives said in a court filing that they found text messages between Holmes and another man before the homicide happened. Police also said the man Holmes was talking to discussed criminal activity and told Holmes that people were talking about "y'all" and "the shootout."
