It's been 14 days since the Orleans Parish Jailbreak, and two of the 10 escapees remain on the run. Now, authorities are increasing the reward for information that leads to their arrest.
"It's $50,000 per remaining fugitive," Louisiana State Police Superintendent Robert Hodges said, noting that authorities are getting tips that are helping them close in on Antoine Massey and Derrick Groves.
Crimestoppers of Greater New Orleans CEO Darlene Cusanza says her group is chipping in $20,000 per escapee. That reward money, she says, is motiving people to call in those tips.
"We know that tips from the public play an incredible role, and we appreciate that we have the trust coming to Crimestoppers for those tips, but our work is not done," Cusanza said. "With two remaining inmates, our board, our organization, wanted to stand firm and encourage anyone who might have intimate knowledge of the whereabouts about Mr. Massey or Mr. Groves not to wait and to contact us immediately."
The fact that people are calling authorities with tips is good news to Col. Hodges, though he says he wishes people would do the right thing and phone in tips regardless of a reward.
"Make the right decision," Col. Hodges said. "Contact law enforcement or Crimestoppers and our partners up here and give us the information that we need to bring them to justice."
