Speaking at a press conference at the Jefferson Parish Emergency Center, the anguished cries of an elderly mother rang out.
“I lost my daughter to a senseless shooting,” Florita Lezard began holding back tears. “And now I’m left to raise her daughters. If anybody out there knows something, please help me to help her daughters to find out who did this.”
Today Crimestoppers of Greater New Orleans boosted a reward for the arrest of those responsible.
“A new reward, that was made possible by the individuals here, will bump the reward up to $10,000,” Said Darlene Cusanza, head of Crimestoppers of Greater New Orleans.
A donation from Henderson’s employer, Loving Hearts of Louisiana enabled the reward to be boosted.
Loving Hearts director Gian Durand spoke about the donation and state of violent crime in New Orleans.
“At what point is enough is enough?” Durand spoke forcefully. “Ilia was murdered at her job. Caring for her client that she loved for seven years, in front of him. Her grandchild was there, five years old, at what point do we stop?”
The suspects, described as two African-American men in hoodies and armed with automatic weapons, sprayed gunfire at their intended target Rubio Santiago and stuck Henderson and the client.
New Orleans police have released a pair of photos of the suspect vehicle, a gold or tan Chevy Suburban.
