Saenger Theater reopens after Hard Rock collapse and pandemic shut it down

A sign on the front doors of the Saenger Theater reads “Welcome Back to the Saenger,” a message long-awaited after the collapse of the Hard Rock construction site and the pandemic had the theater closed and shows canceled.

Now, the show goes on, with comedian Sebastian Maniscalco scheduled to perform Thursday.

The Saenger closed in October 2019 when the construction site next door collapsed and then again, when the pandemic hit months later.

Guests wanting to see a show need to be aware that North Rampart Street is still closed and it is unclear when it will reopen.

"Don't have specifics on it, but again as I often say, we want it to happen sooner rather than later," The City of New Orleans Communication Director Beau Tidwell said Tuesday.
