Is the saltwater wedge back? About this time last year there were many laid plans to stop the dreaded salt water from intruding on local water supplies and on marine life.
The crisis was mainly averted, but it did not mean it would not happen again. Plaquemines Parish President, Keith Hinkley, spoke with Newell Normand about his inkling that his Parish would see it this year.
“I knew we’d deal with this again. If you keep an eye on rainfall in Mississippi Valley, you can get a feel for it.”
The salt has already breached water in Boothville. Hinkley says so far they are handling things.
“We do have some de-salination machines. If the saltwater makes it above Boothville, water will be pushed from Port Sulphur.
Hinkley wants to assure residents that the Parish has it covered. “We will not be drinking saltwater again this year.”
