Scalise says no to Trump's push for $2,000 payouts

House Republican Whip Steve Scalise of Metairie voted in opposition of of President Donald Trump's request for Americans to receive $2,000 stimulus payments.

Scalise was joined by Republicans Mike Johnson and Garret Graves. Ralph Abraham, who is leaving the House at the end of this term, did not vote.

Republican Clay Higgins and Democrat Cedric Richmond voted yes.

Higgins posted a video to his Facebook page explaining his vote. Higgins said it is the taxpayers' money, therefore, it should be returned to taxpayers. He also made usubstaniated claims that the coronavirus is a Chinese weapon, criticized government efforts to slow the spread of the virus, and referred to Gov. John Bel Edwards as a "tyrant."
