SEE: New Orleans TV station suffers major damage and evacuates control room while covering Hurricane Ida

In the midst of their coverage of Hurricane Ida, New Orleans television station WGNO had to evacuate its control room because of the storm’s destruction.

Members of the station’s news team offered a real-time look at the progression of the damage until they were forced out of the building by the Category 4 storm’s devastating wrath.

After a number of tweets documenting the damage, WGNO meteorologist Scot Pilié urged caution and safety for the residents who chose to ride the storm out rather than evacuate.
