You’ll want to make sure you’re able to receive weather alerts as a major system will move into Louisiana later tonight and State Climatologist Barry Keim said it has the potential to bring tornados, high winds, hail, and even heavy rainfall.
“Now the threat will start creeping into Louisiana later this evening in western parishes. And then the threat will basically move eastward across Louisiana during the day tomorrow, so I just urge people to please remain weather aware,” said Keim.
And while most of Louisiana is under enhanced risk, Keim said areas east of Alexandria are under a moderate.
“Now that may not sound that bad, but that’s a four out of five risk on their classification scale, that’s one notch above the enhanced risk, and the vast majority of Louisiana will at a minimum be at an enhanced risk and a big chunk will be in this moderate category,” said Keim.
Much of the state is already under a flash flood watch with this system that could drop several inches of rain in a short time. Keim said to be prepared for a bumpy ride over the next day.
“Now this weather system has great instability incredibly high potential for severe weather including tornadoes, high winds, hail and even the potential for some heavy rainfall,” said Keim.
