The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office says a toddler was struck by his father's car and killed in Metairie Wednesday afternoon.
"Around 12:20 pm, deputies responded to a report of juvenile being hit by a vehicle in the 2900 block of Houma Blvd.," said Sgt. Brandon Veal, public information officer for the sheriff's department. "Upon arrival, deputies located an unresponsive juvenile male in the rear parking lot of the location. The victim was pronounced dead on the scene. "
According to investigators, the child's father was backing his pickup truck out of a parking space at that location, then proceeded forward, evidently unaware his son was standing in front of the vehicle.
The sheriff's office says they do not suspect impairment, but toxicology reports are pending.
