Two people were hit by gunfire when a domestic argument just outside the University Medical Center emergency room entrance ramp, ended in shots being fired.
Ferguson says the shooting stems from an argument a male and female couple had on the entrance ramp to the UMC Emergency Room.
"A female obtained a weapon and fired several shots at her male companion," said New Orleans Police Superintendent Shaun Ferguson. The man who was part of the argument with the suspect was not hit.
However, the bullets penetrated the glass front of the E.R. lobby and struck to patients waiting to be admitted into the E.R.
“A 55-year-old male sustained a gunshot wound to the left shoulder and we have a 55-year-old female who sustained a gunshot wound to the right hip,” said Ferguson. "Both are in stable condition.”
Ferguson says the injuries are not considered life threatening.
The male of the couple has not been arrested, but is being questioned about what led to the shooting.
The female shooter will be charged with the shooting of the two shooting victims inside the E.R.
The E.R. at the UMC is no longer on lockdown but the E.R. is now admitting patients through a different door away from where the shooting took place.
