Colin Sims will soon have the “interim” tag removed from his district attorney job title.

Sims, who has served as the interim district attorney of Washington and St. Tammany Parishes since the death of Warren Montgomery in November, is projected to win Saturday’s special election to fill the vacancy in that office. With early voting returns counted and nearly two-thirds of precincts reporting their tallies, Sims leads Vincent Wynn with 66 percent of the vote.

During the campaign, Sims touted his 18 years worth of experience as a prosecutor on the state and federal levels.

Wynn, a former Northshore prosecutor, ran on a tough-on-crime platform.
