A woman accused of being in the United States illegally is facing charges in connection with a crash in which Slidell police say she struck an SUV carrying Border Patrol agents who are part of Operation Catahoula Crunch.
According to a post on the Slidell Police Department’s social media pages, the crash happened around 7 a.m. Thurdsay on Airport Road at the Interstate 12 West off-ramp.
Investigators say Reyna Funez made a right turn on red but failed to yield to the Border Patrol SUV. According to police, the Border Patrol agent driving the SUV swerved to avoid the crash, but Funez’s car still hit the SUV.
Police say they later discovered that Funez was driving without a valid driver’s license and was not a legal resident of the United States.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents took Funez into custody.
