Slidell Police today gave an update on a little girl who was run over and killed Wednesday during dismissal at Our Lady of Lourdes School.
"It appears to be a tragic accident," said police chief Randy Fandall. The investigation is still underway, but he said this afternoon that nothing in the investigation so far indicates any negligence on the part of the driver of the truck that struck and killed 6-year-old Emma Savoie.
"Investigators have no indiction that...the driver of the truck was speeding or driving in any careless manner," said Fandall.
"The first responders did everything they could to help Emma," Fandall said. "For reasons I cannot understand, God decided that this was her time."
Our Lady of Lourdes school is closed while the community grieves.
"I invite everyone in our community to join us in praying for the repose of Emma's soul, and for consolation for her family," said Dr. RaeNell Houston, Superintendent of Schools for the Archdiocese of New Orleans.
