Slidell Police have arrested a woman on hit and run, obstruction, and other charges after a Sunday evening incident that sent one of her coworkers to the hospital.
According to police, paramedics were called to the Greenbriar Community Care Center on Robert Boulevard about a woman reported to have fallen in the parking lot. But the injuries the woman had sustained pointed to more than just a mere fall, and hospital personnel notified police, said investigators.
"Slidell Police started their investigation and went to Greenbriar Community Care Center to obtain surveillance footage of the incident. Upon reviewing the footage, investigators observed a very disturbing sequence of events," said Daniel Seuzeneau with the Slidell Police Department.
"The video revealed that the victim (an employee of Greenbriar Community Care Center) was walking across the parking lot when she was violently struck by an SUV, which was backing up recklessly through the parking lot," Seuzeneau detailed. "The driver of the SUV, identified as 67-year-old, Lillian Sellers (Mandeville, LA), who was also an employee of Greenbriar Community Care Center, briefly exited the vehicle, retrieved a broken piece of the vehicle’s bumper and went to work as if nothing happened."
Investigators say Sellers told her other coworkers that a "woman fell in the parking lot" and needed help.
Police do not think Sellers deliberately hit the woman, but they do say that Sellers knew she struck someone in the parking lot, and went as far as removing evidence to try and cover her tracks. Police also say several witnesses came forward to tell them that Sellers was often seen driving erratically through the parking lot.
Police booked Sellers into the Slidell city jail on charges of hit and run causing serious bodily injury, reckless operation, negligent injuring, and obstruction of justice by tampering with evidence.
The victim remains hospitalized in critical condition.
