The recent string of interstate shootings in New Orleans continues.
The latest incident happened Wednesday morning on I-10 in New Orleans East near the Crowder Boulevard Exit. The bullet struck the car of a Slidell woman who was driving to work in New Orleans.
"I was really scared. It was really horrifying," Kim Williams told WWL-TV.
Williams says she was driving along I-10 towards downtown when she heard gunshots. That's when she realized one of the bullets hit her car.
"I just bent down and I looked to see if I was shot, and I said, 'Okay. I'm not shot,'" Williams said. "I noticed that it had shot my back glass out, so I grabbed my ears. My ears were hurting. It was so loud. I was like: oh my god! They shot my glass out!"
NOPD officials say the bullet that hit Williams's car may be tied to a shooting on the I-10 Service Road near the Crowder Boulevard exit, not too far from where Williams's car was struck, as Williams was passing nearby. Williams said that the bullet that shattered her window became lodged in door near the seat in which her son usually sits.
"If I would have had a kid bringing him to daycare, my child would have lost his life today," Williams said.
Williams said she's thankful her son was not with her when the shooting happened... and that she wasn't hurt.
"It could be anybody," Williams said. "I'm on my way to work trying to make an honest living, and it happened to me. I'm a victim."
Recently, interim NOPD Superintendent Michelle Woodfork said investigators would re-examine all of the I-10 shootings in the city to see if any of them are connected.
