Snow in the Crescent City? It could happen next week…

cold
WWL

It's been downright cold in the Crescent city with the only relief in sight coming in the form of warmer temps for about thirty hours this weekend.

Then, the bottom falls out again and Monday we could see a hard freeze. But the precipitation may not stop there for those with finger crossed for some snowfall.

LSU Health Climatologist Barry Keim says he isn't ruling it out.

"There will most likely be a wintry mix by midweek."

But one must be careful of what "wintry mix" could mean.

"One or two degrees either way could mean the difference between sleet, snow, or icy rain."

What that will mean is this will be a day of decision. Keim says not only will they type of precipitation be a question, but also who gets it.

"It could be a situation where the Northshore gets it but not south. That warm lake water tends to be enough to bump an air mass up just enough for New Orleans not to get it."

For now, we will just keep hope alive.
