Southern Decadence is off.

The gay-themed festival was cancelled on Saturday according to Mayor LaToya Cantrell's office.

All of the events involved in the festival, parade, Rampart block party, tasting events  and the Bourbon Extravaganza have all been called off.

Many of the city's bars that cater to gays rely on the festival for a lot of revenue for the year.

Even though the main festival is called off, many smaller events independent of the festival are still on and will take the place of the festival.

Southern Decadence had been scheduled for September 2-6.

The festival is main stay of the event season and has been since 1972.

Southern Decadence joins French Quarter Fest, Jazz and Heritage Festival, Voodoo Fest, Red Dress Run, BUKU and White Linen Night as events called off due to the resurgent COVID-19 virus.
