The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office says speeding and no seatbelt are what caused Tuesday’s fatal crash near Covington.
“At approximately 5 a.m. on Tuesday January 5, a 31-year-old Florida man was driving westbound on Lowe Davis Road near Covington in a Toyota Tacoma when he lost control of the vehicle,” STPSO investigators said in a report. “The truck left the roadway and impacted the ditch before coming to rest after striking a tree near Wilkinson Street.”
The sheriff’s office says neighbors heard the crash and called 911.
A responding medical crew transported the driver to an area hospital, where he died from his injuries Wednesday evening.
“While it is always unfortunate when a life is lost,” Sheriff Randy Smith said. “This tragedy should serve as a reminder to all drivers to slow down, obey posted speed limits, and always wear your seatbelt.”
