Spring is already here -- the equinox happened Thursday morning at 4:01. While it's pretty chilly, the rest of the season is forecast to be warmer than average.
"The Climate Prediction Center is calling for above-normal temperatures for the spring," said LSU Health Climatologist Barry Keim.
The warmer-than-normal temperatures can be attributed to La Niña. Keim says that will also tend to push excess rain north of the region.
"They're calling for normal precipitation, so the storm tracking will be further north of us, and by virtue of that, we;re likely just to have normal precip as opposed to anything above normal," said Keim.
But he cautioned not to let that fool you into thinking we are done with storm fronts like the one that spawned tornadoes in Kentwood and in Mississippi last weekend.
"I would absolutely anticipate more of those kinds of watches and warnings as we move through the spring season," said Keim. "That's pretty typical for this time of year."
