Three St. Charles educators booked in child abuse investigation

A teacher, a substitute teacher, and a para-educator at a St. Charles Parish school are facing charges after deputies said they were caught on video abusing a student.

According to sheriff's deputies, the teacher, Richard Hudson, II, and the para-educator, Quiana Smith, are facing cruelty to a juvenile charges.
The substitute teacher, Misty Schaubhut, is accused of not reporting the abuse.

Deputies said they learned of the alleged abuse after the mother reported that her child came home with unusual bruising on her arm, chest, and back. According to a St. Charles Parish Sheriff's Office spokesperson, investigators reviewed surveillance video and a log of the student's daily activities before obtaining the arrest warrants.

According to a St. Charles Parish School System spokesperson, the accused employees are on administrative leave pending both the police investigation and an internal inquest.
